7 Tips to Save Money While Still Decorating with Holiday Lights

The holiday season is greatly enhanced by cookies, gifts, and lights! If you’re thinking about embellishing lights to raise the holiday spirit, you are going to love this article – it’s all about taking Christmas decorations to a whole new level!

Here are 7 tips on how to beautifully decorate this Holiday Season – and still save some money:

  1. Use LED Christmas Lights
LED lights use up to 90% less electricity than regular lights and they last about 10 times longer than incandescent lights.

They are also an affordable way to bring sparkles into your holiday celebration, as a strand can be purchased for around $10.

  2. Use Fiber Optic Decorations
Fiber optic trees and decorations are very energy efficient. In most cases, a single light bulb, located at the base of the unit, will light up the entire decoration!

  3. Limit the “Lights On” Time
Turn on your Christmas lights when it gets dark, and turn them off before you go to bed. By having the lights on for six hours or less daily you’ll save some significant energy money.

  4. Use a Timer
Do you have trouble remembering to turn your Christmas lights on and off? Set a timer and enjoy the lights coming on at dark and then go to bed knowing they will get switched off for the night, too.

  5. Reduce Indoor Lights
Turn off your room light when the lights on your Christmas tree are on and maybe even dim the light nearby – the indoor and outdoor decoration lights should provide more than enough lighting to navigate around.

  6. Use Reflective Materials
By incorporating some reflective materials and shiny things, you might not actually need all those lights after all – decorate with tinsel, bows, mirrors and ornaments to create brightening effects without using more energy.

If that is not your style, consider battery-operated wreaths and other decorative treats.

  7. Use Candle Light
Add flameless candles to your rooms, as well as to your porch or front walkway. This is another great option since they use very little energy, give off that warm, glowing light we love to see during the holidays and are safer than traditional candles. Make sure to opt for an LED option to be as energy-efficient as possible.

Happy Holidays, everyone!! We hope you are having a healthy and joyful Holiday Season full of light!!
